A 30 Year Strategy in the Middle East
How U.S. Strategy Remade the Middle East - Research Article in Progress
A Work in Progress: By Walter Curt
For three decades, Washington has struggled to deal with the issues on the ground regarding the “rouge states” but that strategy is nearing completion—systematically neutralizing hostile Middle-Eastern regimes to cement American interests—from Clinton’s Iraq Liberation Act to Bush’s toppling of Saddam, Obama’s regime-change push in Libya and covert war in Syria, and Trump’s maximum-pressure strikes that just crippled Iran’s nuclear program.
This is a draft of a research article traces that unbroken through-line, showing how bipartisan presidents, mainstream think tanks, and open-source documents together confirm a 30-year strategic goal to remake the region on U.S. terms.
