Click your heels three times, America—we’re definitely not in Kansas anymore. President Biden just pulled back the curtain on his latest act of “justice,” releasing 11 Yemeni terrorists from Guantánamo Bay. The move leaves only 15 inmates at the storied prison, but it’s setting loose flying monkeys across the globe.

Of course, this is just the newest chapter in Biden’s grand spectacle of clemency. First, he granted 1,499 commutations and 39 pardons to a rogues’ gallery of criminals—including spies, child predators, and fraud masterminds. Then he spared 37 out of 40 federal death-row inmates, leaving only three “Wicked Witches” behind bars: the Boston Bomber, the Tree of Life Synagogue shooter, and Dylann Roof. Who needs a haunted forest when you can unleash that many scoundrels on Main Street?

Proponents call it a “Reformative Justice” crusade, casting Biden as a kindly Wizard handing out second chances like heart-shaped clocks and brains of straw. The White House insists these releases address systemic issues and edge us closer to shuttering Guantánamo for good. They promise, with all the sincerity of a friendly scarecrow, that the Yellow Brick Road leads to a kinder, fairer Oz.

But many Americans see this as more of a tornado scene—chaotic, disorienting, and downright dangerous. Victims’ families feel as if a house just dropped on their heads, crushing any faith they had in accountability. Security hawks warn these freed terrorists might hail a flying balloon back to their old lairs, where they can pick up right where they left off.
