The Fairfax Protocol

Newly surfaced email shows “proper protocol” and a nurse-led resource track—at odds with a student’s signed letter and squarely in the sights of the state police probe.

FAIRFAX INVESTIGATION ARTICLE #4: BY WALTER CURT

In Fairfax County, the narrative keeps shifting but the paper trail doesn’t. Our prior reporting detailed sworn statements, recordings, and contemporaneous accounts alleging that Centreville High School staff facilitated abortions for minors without parental notification and possibly with public funds—claims serious enough that Governor Glenn Youngkin has now directed the Virginia State Police to open a criminal investigation. Today we add a new and earlier timestamp to the record: a December 2, 2022 email from Principal Chad Lehman acknowledging both awareness and a so-called “proper protocol” that routed a pregnant student to a “public health nurse,” who then “provides appropriate resources”—with Lehman asserting the student’s guardian “was aware.”

That assertion is contradicted by firsthand accounts and a signed letter from one of the girls stating the family was never told, and audio recordings from one of the girl’s the legal guardian stating that he was never told. This email pushes FCPS awareness back to 2022 and raises a sharper question: when a Fairfax “public health nurse” follows “proper protocol,” does that include facilitating, arranging, or financing an abortion for a minor—without a parent’s knowledge? That’s the nut of this revelation, and it goes to the heart of whether the district’s response is accountability or choreography.
