Columbus Gun Control Will Fail:
As Columbus' leaders are eagerly promoting a new gun control pledge in a bid to curb the city's escalating gun violence, it's vital to question the effectiveness of such measures. Experience from other cities around the country provides a grim foreshadowing: gun restrictions often lead to an opposite outcome, disarming law-abiding citizens while emboldening criminals.
Consider the cases of Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. These cities, boasting some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, are still grappling with staggeringly high rates of gun crime. The problem is simple - criminals inherently flout laws. A person determined to commit murder will find ways to illicitly obtain a firearm, regardless of pledges or community programs.
Rather than chasing the pipe dream of gun control, Columbus should focus on an increased police presence to reclaim its streets. Concentrating resources in high-crime areas can suppress violence and seize illegal firearms. Moreover, such an approach enables officers to gather vital intelligence to preempt retaliatory violence.
If supported with aligned resources and priorities, the Columbus Division of Police can navigate this crisis effectively. However, implementing naive restrictions that hamstring law enforcement, while permitting criminals to wreak havoc, is a perilous path. Safety starts with greater support for law enforcement, not less. It's time to stop entertaining gun control fantasies and let law enforcement restore order.
An illustrative example of the effectiveness of this approach can be found in Florida's “shall issue” RTC law of 1987. Predictions that this law would cause a surge in crime proved to be unfounded. In fact, within five years of its enactment, Florida's murder rate had decreased by 23%, while the national rate increased by nine percent. Despite an attempt to attribute an increase in gun homicide rates to the law, no evidence supported this claim. Moreover, none of the homicides were committed by a carry permit holder, highlighting the baseless nature of these allegations.
Florida officials, including John Russi, the Director of the Licensing Division, and James T. Moore, the Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner, have praised the impact of the RTC law. They've noted that it has been successful, has not resulted in problems from a law enforcement perspective, and has received support from major law enforcement groups.
The evidence is clear: as states have adopted RTC legislation, predictions of a crime surge have repeatedly proven false. It's time to learn from these examples and consider the real-world implications of gun control measures. Gun control may seem like an intuitive solution to violence, but the reality is far more complex. What Columbus truly needs is a robust, well-resourced law enforcement presence, not a disarmed citizenry.

Taxing Vice is Good Policy:
Governor Mike DeWine recently signed into law a budget increasing taxes on sports betting companies in Ohio from 10% to 20%. While conservatives generally oppose tax hikes, this is one instance where higher rates are warranted.
The sports gambling industry flooded Ohio with aggressive marketing the moment betting became legal last year. Despite some companies breaking state rules, the ads kept coming - over $500 million has already been wagered in just six months. Ohio is dealing with a new vice industry that needs extra oversight.
Some claim the tax increase will push companies out of Ohio or make illegal betting more attractive. Nonsense. These same companies operate profitably in high-tax states like New York (51% tax) and Pennsylvania (36% tax). Now that they're making money hand over fist in Ohio, they won't abandon the market over a modest tax bump.
The truth is these sports betting apps are lucky Ohio allowed them at all after banning gambling for decades. Extracting extra tax revenue from a vice industry that targets the vulnerable is smart policy. Gambling isn't a necessity that deserves coddling - it's a revenue source that should be monitored closely.
Conservatives are right to oppose most tax hikes. But wringing a few extra drops from greedy gambling CEOs profiting off human weakness is good governance. Kudos to DeWine for taking a tough stance. If the new 20% rate starts hurting state revenue, it can be revisited.

Wray's Absurd Testimony Shows Why the FBI Must Leave DC
FBI Director Christopher Wray's recent congressional testimony stands as a flagrant display of deflection and denial. His intentional ignorance regarding the FBI's apparent abuses against conservatives lends further weight to the argument that the agency has been inexorably tainted by Washington politics.
Wray's calculated obliviousness to the FBI's role in suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story, its inappropriate labeling of protesting parents as domestic terrorists, and its extraordinary raid of Mar-a-Lago was nothing short of bewildering. He sidestepped accountability, suggesting these controversies are merely the result of a handful of "bad apples." One might then question if he genuinely believes the remainder of the FBI tree is flourishing healthily, unscathed by years of saturation in the swamp-like political landscape.
Is Wray asking us to accept that these high-profile, partisan operations were conceived and executed solely by rank-and-file agents, while he, as Director, remained blissfully unaware? Such intentional blindness, if genuine, signifies a level of incompetence that would necessitate immediate dismissal in any leadership position.
However, Wray's baffling testimony has accomplished one important objective – highlighting the urgent need for the FBI to be extricated from the mire of DC politics. Representative Jim Jordan's suggestion to relocate the FBI headquarters to Huntsville, Alabama, could be the institution's final lifeline.
Drawing a parallel to NASA's transformation under Wernher von Braun in Huntsville, relocating the FBI may be a crucial step towards restoring its integrity, away from the pervasive leftist ideology corrupting its leadership. Its proximity to the political turmoil of DC has seriously undermined the FBI's nonpartisan mission.
However, it's not only the FBI that's in desperate need of a new beginning beyond the confines of the Beltway. The Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health and Human Services, among others, have all been manipulated into serving as ideological marionettes within the Democratic power structure of DC. By dispersing these institutions throughout the heartland, they would be compelled to reengage with the authentic America they have long neglected.
The proposition to shift the swollen federal bureaucracy will inevitably confront stiff opposition from deeply rooted stakeholders who perceive these agencies as their political territories. However, this is precisely the type of draining of the Potomac swamp that the Founding Fathers had envisaged. In the wake of Wray's farcical testimony, relocating the FBI to Alabama appears not merely prudent, but indispensable for the reestablishment of the rule of law.
But the FBI should only be the first in a series of dominos to fall. States like Alaska and Wyoming can extend their hospitality to the EPA, the Department of Education, and others. These agencies are beholden to the people, not to DC insiders like Wray. The time has come to dismantle the DC swamp once and for all.

Doctors Reject Transgender Medical Malpractice
A sobering letter in the Wall Street Journal this week, signed by over 20 medical professionals from around the world, exposes the left's lies about so-called "gender-affirming" care. These courageous doctors and clinicians reveal the shocking truth - there is no solid evidence that giving hormones and surgeries to children prevents suicide or improves mental health. In fact, it can lead to sterility, lifelong medication dependence, and irreversible mutilation that many come to deeply regret.
The medical facts show this transgender treatment craze is nothing but a dangerous political fad. Yet immoral doctors and misguided parents continue handing kids over to this hormonal experimentation and butchery. It's the most barbaric betrayal of the Hippocratic oath imaginable.
As people of faith, we have a moral duty to speak out and protect these exploited and confused children who are being chemically and surgically disfigured in the name of toxic ideology. No child can consent to having their healthy reproductive organs amputated or destroyed. No child can comprehend the devastation of being robbed of their biological future and natural puberty.
America has lost its way, numbed by years of godless liberal domination of our institutions. But there are still some brave souls like these doctors willing to challenge the transgender insanity. It's now our job to amplify their voices, combat this genital mutilation of teens, and restore ethics to medicine and truth to American life. With God's help we can save these children and our country's soul.

Must See Podcast:
Joe Rogan featuring Stephen Meyer:
In this week's must-see podcast, host Joe Rogan hosts the brilliant Stephen Meyer, a renowned scholar and accomplished author. In their stimulating discussion, Meyer delves into the subject of his latest book, "Return of the God Hypothesis". I first became acquainted with Meyer's insightful work back in 2019 when he featured on Ben Shapiro's Sunday Special, where he spoke eloquently about his previous book, "Darwin's Doubt."
Meyer, with his intellectually robust style, unpacks the concept of 'Intelligent Design' from a robustly scientific perspective, infusing it with his unique Christian viewpoint to present an evidence-backed argument for the existence of God. For those intrigued by the big questions - the origin of life and the creation of the universe - this podcast is a treasure trove of deep thought and meaningful discourse.
For a more comprehensive understanding, I'll also share the earlier podcast with Ben Shapiro where Meyer first caught my attention. Both podcasts provide a fantastic opportunity to explore these monumental topics with some of the keenest minds in the field. I highly recommend both podcasts for an enriching, and intellectually stimulating experience.
